    President Andrzej Duda declared a period of national mourning on January 18th and 19th, 2019. A condolences book will be available for signing at the Embassy of the Republic of Poland on Monday, January 21st from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and on Tuesday, January 22nd from noon to 5:00 p.m.

    On January 13th, the Mayor of the city of Gdańsk Paweł Adamowicz was critically wounded by a knife attack at the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity concert in Gdańsk. After being rushed to the hospital and undergoing a five-hour surgery, he succumbed to his wounds the following day. Across the country and around the world, including in Ottawa, Poles gathered to honor the memory of the late Mayor. Paweł Adamowicz had served as Mayor of Gdańsk for over twenty years.


    The period of national mourning will begin on Friday, 18th January at 5:00 p.m. and end on Saturday, 19th January at 7:00 p.m. The funeral of Paweł Adamowicz will be held on Saturday, January 19th at Saint Mary’s Basilica in Gdańsk.
