    On April 3rd the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Ottawa jointly with the Archbishop of Ottawa organized a concert dedicated to the 14th anniversary of Pope Saint John Paul II’s death and the John Paul II Day in Canada. The event took place at the Notre Dame Cathedral Basilica in Ottawa.

    Ambassador Andrzej Kurnicki and Archbishop of Ottawa Terrence Prendergast inaugurated the evening. The audience gathered had the opportunity to listen to the music of Vivaldi, Bach, Albinoni, Marcello, Caccini, Górecki, Moniuszko, Mendelssohn, des Prés, Pärt, Papoulis, Morricone and Tallis interpreted by 60 artists, including baritone Marc-Antoine d’Aragon, soprano Margarita Lianeri, Mariusz Monczak violin, Nadia Monczak violin, Ensemble Con Brio de Montreal, Ensemble Schola Cantorum under the conduction of Michel Guimont and Dixie Road Group. The concert was hosted by actress Lilliana Komorowska, who also read Saint John Paul II’s reflections and poetry.

     

     

    There were about 400 guests gathered at the Notre Dame Cathedral Basilica that night, including representatives of federal administration, diplomatic corps, NGOs, Ottawa’s artistic circles and Polish diaspora.
